Rare ‘Pre-Fame’ Photos of Prince to Be Shown at Exhibit in San Francisco
Two years after his untimely passing, Prince and his musical legacy is still remembered and celebrated. In San Francisco, the Family Affair gallery will honor the Purple One with a special photo exhibit.
According to Okayplayer, the presentation will feature rare “pre-fame” photos of Prince by photographer Robert Whitman. Most of the photos were captured in 1977 when Prince was 19 years old in his native hometown of Minneapolis.
According to press release, most of the intimate photos were used as press photos to promote his debut album For You, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The show opening will take place on June 7 -- on Prince's 60th birthday -- from 6-10PM in the Lower Haight district (next door to Groove Merchants Records) in San Francisco, Calif.
Robert Whitman will be in attendance and conduct a Q&A session alongside Owen Husney (who is credited with discovering Prince) with demos and songs from For You being played throughout the exhibit.
“These intimate images express the innocence and excitement of the potential of ‘making it,’ and the professionalism required to do so, all the while having fun.” reads the press release.
