Ravens Release Former Tide Running Back

The Baltimore Ravens, following their defeat at the hand of the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, have informed Mark Ingram that he will be released, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The former unanimous All-American and Heisman trophy winning Alabama running back spent eight years of his career in New Orleans before the emergence of Alvin Kamara and moved on to Baltimore in 2019 where he saw a resurgence in his career, rushing for 1018 yards and 10 touchdowns and got a Pro Bowl nod.

Ravens fans may remember the birth of a viral meme, credit of Mark Ingram, during Lamar Jackson's MVP campaign in 2019. Ingram took the stage at a press conference to introduce the young quarterback, and "Big Truss" was born.

2020 saw Ingram take a back seat role to third-year running back Gus Edwards and rookie running back J.K. Dobbins. Ingram's role was severely diminished as he rushed for just 299 yards on 72 carries, down from 202 carries the year prior. With the Raven's young running backs continuing to emerge, the writing on the wall has been confirmed and Ingram's time in Baltimore is up.

The three-time pro bowler, sitting at 31-years old now, is on the back end of his career and will be looking for a new NFL home. While Ingram's starting days are most likely behind him, he could provide valuable veteran presence for a team looking for a boost at the running back position next season.

Ingram will always be remembered as an all-time great for Alabama and will be loved by Tide fans forever for being a part of Saban's first championship team at Alabama. What's next for the former Heisman winner has yet to be seen, but if Ingram still has anything in the tank, a team looking for a solid veteran presence could come calling.
