Robert Horry Set to Graduate in May
Former Alabama basketball player Robert Horry announced on Tuesday that he will graduate from the university in May. After an illustrious career playing in Coleman Coliseum, Horry will now earn his degree in the same arena.
Horry grew up in Andalusia, Alabama. As a senior in high school, he won the Naismith Alabama High School Player of the Year. He came to the University of Alabama in 1988 and played under coach Wimp Sanderson.
During his time in Tuscaloosa, Horry helped guide the Crimson Tide to three SEC Tournament titles and two Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Horry earned Second-Team All-SEC, SEC All-Defensive and SEC All-Academic team honors. He left Alabama as the schools all-time leader in blocks with 285.
Horry was drafted 11th overall by the Houston Rockets in 1992. He won seven NBA titles in 16 seasons. Two with the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995, three with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2000 to 2002, and two with the San Antonio in 2005 and 2007. He has the most rings by any modern player.
He played with a number of a NBA legends, including Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon and Tim Duncan. The former Alabama star earned the nickname "Big Shot Rob" because of his clutch shooting in big playoff moments.
Horry is currently a commentator on Spectrum SportsNet in Los Angeles for the Lakers.
