Last night over dinner, the topic came up of the controversy surrounding what happens when you Google "sexy black mom" versus "sexy white mom." I'd never heard of this. So, I decided to look it up. I wish I hadn't.

I was told to type those terms into the search and then go to Images. When I did "sexy white mom," some of the images were quite classy while some displayed women in lingerie and things of the such. However, when I typed "sexy black mom" and went to Images, pornographic images appeared. I was mortified.

For starters, I've always seen "sexy" as a state of being, a certain aura one possesses as a compilation of personality, intellect, confidence, and lastly appearance. So, looking up an image for a sexy person was already awkward. But to have THOSE images appear for black women was quite humiliating for a few reasons:

1. Apparently, we display our bodies as our first assets to the degree that it's recognized as what makes us sexy.

2. These images could quite possibly be real mothers. How embarrassing for their children!

3. The images displayed weren't even mid-grade. I mean, if you're going to use a picture of a naked woman to represent sexiness, can't you at least use "a bad one?" (And you know the type of "bad" I mean.)

To clarify things, I did a few other searches to see what would come up such as "sexy Russian mom," "sexy Japanese mom," and "sexy Korean mom." Some of those turned up pornographic images as well.

But I'm not them. I'm a very intelligent, spiritual, talented, nurturing, personable Black mom.... And that makes me sexy! I encourage all of my sister mothers to post a picture of yourself fully clothed that displays your class and personality, using the hash tag #sexyblackmom.
