National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Special Weather Statement for Marion-Lamar-Fayette-Winston-Walker-Blount-Etowah-Cherokee-Jefferson-St. Clair.  This includes the cities of Hamilton, Sulligent, Vernon, Fayette, Double Springs, Jasper, Oneonta, Gadsden, Centre, Birmingham, Hoover, Pell City, and Moody.

“Temperatures falling below freezing with residual moisture on local roadways will lead to the possibility of hazardous travel in some areas late tonight into early Wednesday morning. Patchy ice may create slick spots on some local roads...bridges and overpasses in less-traveled areas. Please use extra caution if you have to travel. Temperatures will rise above freezing by 9 AM.”

If you happen to be caught on some icy spots while driving, be sure to reduce your speed, and my Dad always said to be sure to turn into the slide.  Also, Icy Road Safety encourages you to stay off icy roads.  Also, they remind you to wear your seat belt, pay attention to the weather, go easy on the breaks, turn into a slide, avoid hills, and more.

Also, the National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook.  Rain may transition to a wintry mix across far northern and northwestern portions of Central Alabama beginning around 6 PM this evening. A brief snow accumulation around a tenth of an inch or less is possible along and north of a line from Vernon to Double Springs through midnight. Wintry mix is expected to end across northern Central Alabama around 3 AM. No further snow accumulations are expected across these areas.”  This is for the following counties: Marion-Lamar-Fayette-Winston-Walker-Blount-Etowah-Calhoun-Cherokee-Cleburne-Pickens-Tuscaloosa-Jefferson-Shelby-St. Clair-Talladega-Clay-Randolph-Sumter-Greene-Hale-Perry-Bibb-Chilton-Coosa-Tallapoosa-Chambers-Marengo-Dallas-Autauga-Lowndes-Elmore-Montgomery-Macon-Bullock-Lee-Russell-Pike-Barbour.
