Alabama – MSU Game Day: Where to Eat and What to Explore
As Alabama Roll Tide fans hit the road to Starkville, Mississippi, for Saturday’s October 3 matchup, check our hourly game-day forecast to know what to expect from pregame to the final whistle.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs are ranked No. 16 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, and one might add, they're having themselves a pretty good season. As an alum, I have to admit that’s pretty exciting for Bulldog fans.
Kickoff is early at 11 a.m., but that still leaves plenty of time to explore Starkville and discover what the college town has to offer.
Top Things to Do in Starkville, Mississippi
Mississippi State’s Campus
Even if you’re wearing crimson, you are on the Bulldogs’ turf. Mississippi State’s campus is beautiful, and it’s at the top of my list for exploring. Be sure to stop by MSU’s iconic landmarks like the Bully Statue, the Drill Field, the Chapel of Memories, the MSU Cheese Store, and the Junction for pregame atmosphere.
Cotton District
For great photo opportunities, the Cotton District is stocked with shops, restaurants, and bars if the weather cooperates. Russell Street is another hub of action; also, look out for the amazing murals that add a splash of creativity to your visit.
Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum
This spot is filled with the history of Starkville and Oktibbeha County. It’s a nice tour that gives you more insight into the area's rich heritage.

FOOD
The Little Dooey
100 Fellowship Street, Starkville, MS 39759
This automatically goes to the top of my list because … it’s the place for Mississippi BBQ. I haven’t been in a while, but I still remember our family order: Mississippi Beef Brisket Platter with Onion Rings and Baked Beans, Pulled Chicken Platter with Creamed Corn and Fried Okra, Rib Tips Basket with mac and cheese and hushpuppies.
Bluto’s Greek Tavern
511 University Dr., Starkville, MS 39759
My mouth is watering just at the mention of Bluto’s Greek Tavern. Be sure to get the Hummus Plate no matter what. My top three picks are the Smoked Wings combo with pickle ranch dressing, Greek Quesadilla, and the Hangover Cure breakfast plate.
BOP’s Frozen Custard
127 Hwy 12 West, Starkville, MS 39759
You can’t leave Starkville without a sweet treat from BOP’s Frozen Custard. I may or may not be a card-carrying member of the “Scoop Squad.” My go-to is the German Chocolate sundae, Hawaiian Crunch concrete, or the Peach Cobbler à la Mode.
