Juwan Gary came out of Friday night's game with a right ankle injury and wasn't able to return, but head coach Nate Oats gave an update on the status of his injury Monday during his press conference prior to the Tide's third game of the season.
Just before tip-off, Alabama honored the late Luke “Fluffapotamus” Ratliff by presenting his mom Pam with a plaque and by dedicating the seat the super fan sat in to his memory.
Ratliff passed away in March due to complications from COVID-19 after attending nearly every game – home and away- that the basketball team played during his years as an Alabama student.
“He was more than just a fan,” Oats said. “He was a part of us. It felt like he was a part of the program.”
The Alabama Crimson Tide basketball program stays hot on the recruiting trail after Rylan Griffen announced his commitment to Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide. Griffen is a 4-star shooting guard out of Richardson, TX., he is considered the No. 5 shooting guard in the class and the No. 6 player in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports Composite.
The Alabama Crimson Tide lands its third commitment in the 2022 basketball recruiting class on Thursday. Junior college prospect Nick Pringle announced on his social media that he would be joining the Alabama Crimson Tide. He's rated as the No. 1 junior college power forward in the class of 2022 and the No. 2 overall JUCO player for the class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Excitement was in the air in Foster Auditorium as the Alabama men's and women's basketball program celebrated Tide Tipoff 2021. Shooting contests, skills competitions and James Spann stimulated the Crimson Tide faithful who are excited for the new season to get started.
