TORNADO WARNING Issued for Portions of Jefferson, Shelby Counties Until 2 PM
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a TORNADO WARNING in effect until 2 p.m. for portions of Jefferson and Shelby Counties.
The text of the warning is as follows:
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a * Tornado Warning for... Shelby County in central Alabama... Southeastern Jefferson County in central Alabama... * Until 200 PM CDT. * At 1253 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over West Blocton, or 10 miles north of Centreville, moving northeast at 45 mph. HAZARD...Tornado. SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation. IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely. * Locations impacted include... Southern Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Alabaster, Bessemer, Homewood, Pelham, Mountain Brook, Trussville, Helena, Irondale, Leeds, Moody, Chelsea, Childersburg, Wilsonville, Indian Springs Village, Vincent, Harpersville and Westover. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
