Tuscaloosa Civil Rights Foundation Hosts Uplift Awards Luncheon
The Tuscaloosa Civil Rights Foundation will host its very first Uplift Awards Luncheon featuring “The Power of Perseverance.” This event will take place on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Tuscaloosa River Market with their signature sponsor the Alabama Power Foundation.
According to the press release, this luncheon is “to honor those who have contributed to our community in meaningful ways either personally or professionally.”
The keynote speaker for this inaugural event will feature “Lisa McNair, whose older sister, Denise, was one of the four little girls killed in the infamous 1963 bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama,” said the press release.

Rev. T.Y. Rogers Trail Blazer Award: Judge John H. England Jr.
Bill Buchanan Service Award: Mrs. Emma Jean Melton
Dr. Myrtle Gray Outstanding Youth Award: Jared White, a student at Central High School
