Tuscaloosa Needs to Get Masked Up, Get Outside, and Get Moving

I know we are way past the cabin fever stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. I see more and more people venturing out. Sadly, I also witness many Alabamians not practicing social distancing, wear the mask correctly, and washing their hands effectively. Am I perfect? No, but I do try my best.

[VENT TIME] What is it about the masks? Like people wear them under their nose, hanging off their chin, or just dangling off their ear? This drives me batty.

Even though we have made significant progress in preventing the spread of the coronavirus, we still have to keep at it. Alabama now has over 130,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health, and the COVID-19 Dashboard.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reminds us all, “that the more closely you interact with others and the longer that interaction, the higher the risk of COVID-19 spread.” As we head out, let’s be sure we are still practicing social distancing of six feet, washing our hands frequently, avoid touching your face, disinfect frequently touched areas, wearing a mask, and making smart decisions.

To gauge the potential risks of COVID-19, here are great questions to ask before deciding to go out from the CDC.

Is COVID-19 spreading in your community?

Will you have potential close contact with someone who is sick or anyone who is not wearing a mask (and maybe asymptomatic)?

Will I have to share any items, equipment, or tools with other people?

Are you at increased risk of severe illness?

Do you take everyday actions to protect yourself from COVID-19?

Will my activity put me in close contact with others?

How many people will you interact with?

Can you keep 6 feet of space between you and others?

Will you be outdoors or indoors?

What’s the length of time that you will be interacting with people?
