America's Got Talent is about to get a tinge fiercer — Top Model creator Tyra Banks is taking over as host after Nick Cannon dramatically quit the show in February.

AGT judge Howie Mandel tweeted the news of Banks' new gig yesterday (March 12), a position the supermodel has since said in a statement is the type of opportunity she's always dreamed of having.

"Since I was a little girl, I’ve been obsessed with grandiose acts and performers who make the seemingly impossible possible," she said. "I love how AGT brings that feeling into everyone’s home, capturing the best of people who come out and give it their all to make those big, fierce and outrageous dreams come true. I look forward to connecting with the dreamers, having fun and giving hugs and words of encouragement when needed. And maybe I’ll get one or two performers to smize for the audience!"

And the production seems equally eager to have her on board — judge Simon Cowell sang his praises of Banks in a statement and NBC Entertainment president of alternative and reality group Paul Telegdy noted "Tyra is the complete package: Out-of-this-world talented, funny, brilliant and all heart. In whatever she has done, she has always connected with audiences around the world. Her vivacious spirit will infuse AGT in a big way."

Cannon, who hosted the show for eight seasons, announced in a February Instagram post that he was done with AGT after claiming that NBC tried to silence him and his comedy on a handful of occasions.

“I will not be silenced, controlled or treated like a piece of property,” Cannon said. “There is no amount of money worth my dignity or my integrity.”
