Bumble Bee Foods and the producer of Chicken of the Sea tuna have announced a recall of some 5-ounce cans of tuna, but it's not the fish that's the problem. What has the companies worried is that the seals on the cans aren't tight enough. The seals could be so loose that they let in air and outside contaminants, which could spoil the tuna. The two companies issued nearly identical announcements saying the seams on the lids of the cans "do not meet the standard for seam quality."Here are the affected cans: Brunswick brand chunk light tuna in water, Bumble Bee brand chunk light tuna in water, Bumble Bee brand chunk light tuna in vegetable oil, Bumble Bee brand chunk white albacore in water, Chicken of the Sea brand chunk white albacore tuna in water. The Bumble Bee and Brunswick products were sold between Jan. 17 and Feb. 28 of this year, while the Chicken of the Sea cans were sold between Feb. 4 and Feb. 27 of this year.So far, it doesn't seem like anyone has become ill. If you have one of these cans, throw it out and contact Bumble Bee by calling 800-800-8572 or the producer of Chicken of the Sea by calling 800-597-5898.
