West Alabama residents should prepare for an influx of rain over the upcoming week with an expected range of 3 to 6 inches.

The Townsquare Media Weather Center is monitoring the potential for flooding issues for this week. On the positive side, the incoming rain should reduce heat levels and help drought-stricken areas.

James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist, said, “Deep tropical moisture will move in from the southwest, and a couple of surface boundaries will be involved as well.”

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has alerted residents to expect “widespread rainfall over the next 7 days.”

Here is what to expect:

  • Downpours with heavy rain, perhaps accompanied by some thunder
  • Widespread 3 to 6 inches of rainfall over the next 7 days
