West Alabama Alum Malcolm Butler Has Game Winning Interception in Super Bowl

Super Bowl XLVIIII gave viewers everything they could possibly hope for in a game. It included a fireworks filled halftime show performance by Katy Perry, beer commercials with puppies, and even a late UFC style brawl. However, no one was prepared for the events that transpired on the final drive.

With under a minute to play in the game, Seahawks wide receiver Jermaine Kearse - who caught the game winning touchdown against the Packers in the NFC Championship - managed to bring down a bobbled pass for a 33-yard gain to up the Seahawks with a 1st and Goal. Two plays later, quarterback Russell Wilson was picked off in the endzone by Patriots' safety Malcolm Butler.

Butler, an undrafted rookie from West Alabama, had only registered 12 total tackles coming into the game, and the interception was the first of his career.

"I just had a vision that I was going to make a big play and it came true," Butler said emotionally after the game. "I'm just blessed. I can't explain it right now. It's crazy."

Butler started his college football career playing for Hinds Community College. He later transferred to West Alabama where he was a 2013 First Team All-Gulf South Conference selection after recording 45 tackles and two interceptions.
