Summer Arriving Early? Heat and Rain Chances Increase Across West Alabama

Summer, is that You?

It’s not quite “officially” summer yet, but the temperatures across West Alabama are certainly making it feel that way. If you've gotten in a car that’s been sitting in the sun for a few hours, you know exactly what I’m talking about. It feels more like a sauna than a vehicle.

Get ready for more of the same, as hot and humid conditions are expected to stick around for the next several days.

Now, meteorological summer starts on June 1, but most residents follow the astronomical calendar, where summer starts on June 21.

Rain Outlook

“A front could bring a band of showers and thunderstorms down into the Tennessee Valley late Friday or Friday night,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist. “The upper ridge over the region will weaken over the weekend, making the air more unstable, and opening the door for an increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms. The best chance of rain will be in the noon to midnight window, and the highest coverage of rain will likely be on Sunday.

Spann added that “Rain could be heavy at times on Sunday and Monday, and we will watch for any flash flooding issues.”
