Weekend weather continues, with changes now expected for Sunday in West Alabama, along with new information and updates.

The Townsquare Media Weather Center is currently monitoring six areas: Winter Weather Advisory Areas of West Alabama, Influx of Rain, Wind Gusts, Temperature Drop, Cold Weather Advisory, and Walkway/Roadway Conditions.

Change You Need to Know About

The Storm Prediction Center has narrowed the severe weather threat to the southeastern third of Central Alabama, removing West Alabama from the forecast. The highest risk is south of the I-85 corridor, where a Level 2 out of 5 Slight Risk remains in effect.

Sunday Weather Concerns

Winter Weather Advisory

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until Noon Sunday for Marion, Winston, Lamar, Fayette, Walker, and Cherokee counties.

Influx of Rain

“Rain will be heavy at times, primarily on Sunday, with 1-3 inches forecast; minor flooding may occur,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Windy

Gusty winds are expected ahead of the approaching cold front on Sunday.

30 mph wind gusts are expected in the following West Alabama communities: Bibb, Greene, Hale, Perry, and Sumter counties.

25 mph wind gusts are expected in the following West Alabama communities: Pickens County.

Sunday Temperature Drop

As the weather system exits Alabama, temperatures will drop quickly, bringing frigid temperatures.

Here is the temperature outlook from the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

  • Bibb

Temperature falling to around 43 by 5 p.m.

  • Fayette

Temperature rising to near 49 by noon, then falling to around 33 during the remainder of the day.

  • Greene

Temperature falling to around 36 by 5 p.m.

  • Hale

Temperature falling to around 39 by 5 p.m.

  • Lamar

Temperature rising to near 44 by noon, then falling to around 31 during the remainder of the day.

  • Perry

Temperature falling to around 42 by 5 p.m.

  • Pickens

Temperature rising to near 50 by noon, then falling to around 33 during the remainder of the day.

  • Sumter

Temperature falling to around 38 by 5 p.m.

  • Tuscaloosa

Temperature falling to around 37 by 5 p.m.

  • Walker

Temperature falling to around 36 by 5 p.m.

Cold Weather Advisory

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect Sunday night into Monday morning and again Monday night into Tuesday morning for wind chills as low as 0-10°F for all West Alabama counties.

Walkways and Roadways Concerns

“A flash/freeze black ice situation could unfold over the northern half of Alabama due to all of the standing water left over from the big rains we are seeing now, and later today,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.
