Tuscaloosa City Schools, along with Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa and Legal Services of Alabama, will highlight and recognize Rising Star Character Students of the Month from each school in the district during the 2022-2023 school year. Each month, two to three students will be highlighted in this series.

September's second recipient of the Tuscaloosa City Schools Rising Star Character Student of the Month award is Westlawn Middle School's Karson Tucker.

Tucker, an 8th grader, is involved in multiple school activities, including being a member of the School of Character team, Leadership team, marching band and assisting with school announcements.

Tucker said demonstrating good character everyday comes easy because of Westlawn's mission for every student to be students of character.

"We just became the National School of Character so we strive to be better and demonstrate leadership skills everyday," Tucker said.

Tucker was honored during the in-school Lady Falcons volleyball game against Eastwood Middle School Friday afternoon.

Tucker's future plans include attending college at either Morehouse College or the University of Alabama to become a pediatrician.

Tucker said he plans to continue doing his part to be a model student that others can look up to.

"I'm here everyday to show other students that they can succeed and do good," Tucker said.
