Blige kicked off her career in 1988 by doing background vocal work for other artists. Then in 1992, she was on her own and debuted the album, What’s the 411? on Uptown Records. In my opinion, that album combined the love of hip-hop and R&B which was somewhat a new lane of music during that time. It was pretty popular because it peaked on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop album charts at #1.

She went on to do many more albums, like 15. Also, she is an actress starring in a vast amount of television shows and films.
