Wind Advisory For Friday 8 am to 7 pm
There is a wind advisory in effect for Friday, May 8, 2020, starting at 8 am until 7 pm for most of the listening areas for this radio station. This includes portions of central, east-central, northeast, northwest, and west-central Alabama. These winds from the southwest could be from 15 to 25 miles per hour and with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour. Also, the southwest winds will shift to come from the northwest later in the day.
According to the National Weather Service, the impacts of the “gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.”
What exactly is a wind advisory? The guidance from the National Weather Service notes that a “A Wind Advisory is issued when the following conditions are expected: 1) sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph for an hour or more. AND/OR 2) wind gusts of 46 to 57 mph for any duration.”
I suggest that you use extra caution during a wind advisory. I will be sure to keep you updated, Mary K – weather forecaster.
