Enjoy a glass of wine with a movie.  No, not at home. At the theater!

Scrolling online, I came across a story about a Idaho movie theater being in trouble for serving alcohol during the movie "50 Shades of Grey." So, curiously, I decided to check and see if there are any theaters in Alabama that serve alcohol.... Not that I necessarily drink or anything.

In the Idaho case, the problem was that alcohol is not allowed to be served during movies and films that depict sex. Say what now? It wasn't the alcohol but the fact that it was served during a movie with sex scenes?

So, I started to do a little research. I wanted to know if there were any such theaters in Alabama. I reached out to the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (ABC), but no one was available at the time. So, I went online and did a search for Alabama theaters that serve alcohol. Turns out, there's one in Birmingham: The Edge.

The Edge serves beer, wine, and one champagne, according to the associate with whom I spoke. She also told me that the only stipulations they have is that you must be at least 21 with verifiable ID and that their drinks must be poured in a cup and that like any other establishment, if it is determined that you've had enough to drink, they will cut you off. She said they're adjacent to a trampoline park and that you may take your drink with you to the park, but it must be kept within the observation zone.

So, there you have it. Alabama does indeed allow the serving of alcohol at some of its movie theaters. Interesting indeed.
