This afternoon, the University of Alabama will host Michael Oldstone, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and UA alumnus, as he speaks about the Ebola crisis. Oldstone is a leader of the viral-immunobiology lab at the Scripps Research Institute.

A 21-year-old man drove himself to the hospital Monday night after being shot in the face at Broadmore Gardens apartment complex on 3rd Ave East. He is in stable condition but has not been able to talk with investigators because of his injury.

Yesterday, U.S. Marshals in Texas arrested 48-year-old Timothy Wedgeworth, who was wanted in the sex abuse of a young girl.  Wedgeworth is named on the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office "Most Wanted" list with warrants against him on charges of first-degree sodomy and sex abuse of a child under the age of 12.

Federal regulators are changing some mortgage rules, with an eye toward spurring more home lending. The government is dropping the requirement that the borrower put down a 20 percent down payment if a bank doesn't hold at least 5 percent of the mortgage securities tied to those loans on its books.
