The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for much of the state, and the NWS added Tuscaloosa to the portion of warned counties early this morning. 

This is an upgrade from the Winter Weather Advisory issued yesterday, meaning that the NWS is now more confident in our being significantly impacted by snow and sleet. You can read the full text of the warning below:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BIRMINGHAM HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND SLEET...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM
CST SATURDAY. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* EVENT...A WINTER STORM IS EXPECTED THAT WILL PRODUCE
  ACCUMULATING SNOW AND SLEET IN THE WARNING AREA.

* TIMING...FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.

* LOCATION...ALONG AND NEAR I-59

* ACCUMULATIONS...ONE HALF TO 2 INCHES OF SNOW AND SLEET ARE
  POSSIBLE WITHIN A CORRIDOR INCLUDING TUSCALOOSA...WEST
  BLOCTON...PORTIONS OF THE BIRMINGHAM METRO AREA...AND GADSDEN.

* IMPACTS...ROADS AND BRIDGES MAY BECOME SLICK MAKING TRAVEL
  HAZARDOUS. EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION IF TRAVEL IS NECESSARY.

* TEMPERATURES...TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON WILL BE IN THE LOW
  TO MID 30S. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL INTO THE LOWER 20S OVERNIGHT
  INTO SATURDAY MORNING. HIGHS SATURDAY WILL ONLY RISE INTO THE
  LOW TO MID 30S.
