2023 five-star quarterback, Malachi Nelson, out of Los Alamitos High School just outside of Los Angeles, CA has named his final seven schools, including the Crimson Tide among several other big power-five schools.

Nelson, the fifth ranked player in the nation and second ranked quarterback, according to 247Sports, is listed as a pro-style quarterback by many outlets, but has shown a solid ability to extend plays with his athleticism and pick up yards with his feet. In his sophomore season, in which he played just six games due to COVID-19,  Nelson threw for over 1500 yards and 23 touchdowns on 73% completion, also adding 17 carries for 49 yards.

247Sports currently predicts Nelson will choose Oklahoma, who has found great success with highly recruited quarterbacks in recent years.  It's no secret that Lincoln Riley has created a quarterback factory in Norman as Spencer Rattler looks poised for another great season in 2021. If Nelson chooses the Sooners over the Crimson Tide, he definitely has the tools to succeed like those before him.

Although Nelson may fly under the radar alongside fellow 2023 prospect, Arch Manning, who is already one of the biggest names in college football before even committing to a program, he is a very highly sought after talent, having narrowed his list to many of the top schools in their respective conferences. If Nelson chooses the Tide, he will join a quarterback room that will likely be led by Ty Simpson and will have a chance to compete for a job.

As of now, Alabama appears to be more focused on Manning, the top ranked quarterback in the class, but with a lot of time until prospects make their final decisions, their options for 2023 signal-callers are open.
