Two fighter jets with the Alabama Air National Guard flew over Tuscaloosa's DCH Regional Medical Center Tuesday afternoon in a salute to health care workers on the front lines of the battle against the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The F-16 jets that participated are known as the Red Tails and are part of the Guard's 187th Fighter Wing in Montgomery.

The Tuscaloosa flyover was one of eight scheduled Tuesday as the Guard saluted health care heroes in Auburn, Tuskegee, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Mobile, Decatur and Dothan Tuesday.

Local photographer Skip Baumhower captured photos and video of the touching tribute and has allowed this site and station to share them here -- click here to check out footage of the flyover on Baumhower's Facebook.

Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa is also honoring our area's heroic healers as part of National Nurses Week. Click here to nominate the special nurse in your life, and we will select six winners a day from May 6th until May 12th to receive a bouquet from Sue's Flowers in Northport and a $50 gift card to Southern Ale House.
