Jackson became the first African American scholarship student-athlete on the Alabama football team in 1970. He became the first African American to play in a varsity game for the Crimson Tide a year later.

Mitchell transferred to Alabama out of Eastern Arizona Junior College and became an All-American and team captain for the Tide. In 1973 he became the first African American to coach at Alabama, joining Paul "Bear" Bryant's staff as an assistant.

The spring game will be held as the Tide's 15th and final practice of the spring session in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Per tradition, admission will be free to the public. Alabama has led the nation in spring game attendance over the last 15 years, averaging 76,303 fans per game across the time period.

Alabama junior quarterback Bryce Young stood out last season, winning the 2021 A-Day MVP, joining John Metchie and Mac Jones as the recent winners of the award. Will Young repeat as MVP or will another Alabama player introduce himself to the country with a strong performance?
