Alabama Storm Threat Grows: Concerns for Friday and Monday
The Townsquare Media Weather Center is closely monitoring conditions for the potential for severe weather. Here is what we know so far.
Friday into Saturday Outlook
The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of Alabama in a level 1 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. For now, this is mainly across the northwestern portion.
- The main threats include damaging winds up to 60 mph and large hail up to quarter-size.

Early Details for Monday, April 27
Looking ahead to Monday, April 27, there is a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms from the Storm Prediction Center for Monday into Monday night. These are early thoughts as we are still several days away from the active weather pattern.
- The current primary threats with this system are tornadoes, damaging winds up to 60 mph, and large hail up to quarter-size.
“The reliable European global model keeps most of the rain and storms on Monday west of Alabama, suggesting the day here will be mostly dry,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist. Storms move in late Monday night and Tuesday; it remains to be seen if we have a severe threat on Tuesday.
More detailed weather updates are on the way as these systems continue to develop and take shape.
