“Denham currently serves as the associate dean for graduate academic affairs, leading campuswide efforts in creating new graduate programs, accreditation, and student and professional development, among other duties,” said the press release. “He is also a professor of instructional technology in the College of Education.”

In his new role, Denham will guide the future of graduate education at UA, with an emphasis on ensuring doctoral programs meet the evolving needs of Alabama and the nation.

Working closely with academic and University leadership, he will help drive the development of new graduate programs while strengthening recruitment efforts, increasing funding support, streamlining student pathways, and fostering excellence in mentorship.

“Graduate education sits at the heart of this University's research, teaching, and service mission,” said Denham. “So, being tapped by Provost Reid to steward this unit is a profound honor. Additionally, I am very excited about the future of graduate education at UA, as there are many opportunities for us to further strengthen the fantastic work already underway.”

Since 2022, enrollment in The University of Alabama’s Graduate School has steadily increased, reaching a record high of more than 6,200 students in fall 2025. The Graduate School offers more than 150 master’s and doctoral programs spanning the humanities, sciences, education, and a wide range of professional areas.
