Cam Sims a Likely Trade Target for Teams

The Washington Football Team who lacked a true number two receiver opposite of Terry McLaurin last season was fortunate to have Cam Sims on their roster.

Sims had 32 catches for 477 yards and a touchdown in 16 games last season, including seven receptions for 104 yards against the Super Bowl-winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense.

He also had quite a few impressive catches down the stretch, like this one that set up a go-ahead field goal to win the game against the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.

The team made the decision before free agency started that they would be tendering Sims, meaning that Sims can still negotiate with teams.

Here's how the process works in detail: "If that player does receive an offer from another NFL franchise, then their original team has the opportunity to match whatever offer the player receives. When a player accepts another team's deal, then the original team receives a draft pick for the player that was tendered. A restricted free agent is a player with three or fewer accrued seasons with an NFL franchise."

With the free agency signings of Curtis Samuel and Adam Humphries, the team appears to be pretty set at the wide receiver position. 

CBS Sports Insider Jason La Canfora seems to believe that Sims could be a potential trade target before the season gets underway. 

"Cam Sims is just 25, making just $2.2M this season on a team that just invested in a veteran slot guy in Adam Humphries and a young do-everything-from-every position receiver in Curtis Samuel. Oh, and Washington has two of the better pass-catching running backs in the NFL on its roster, and this regime did not bring Sims in as an undrafted free agent, they inherited him."

Sims is a bit of a unicorn when it comes to the wideout position, not many guys possess his 6-foot-5 height and quickness. 

If Washington keeps Sims it'll provide them with some solid depth, but if he gets traded they likely replace him in a few weeks on draft weekend.
