CFL Fan Loses $1 Million Because of Terrible Holding Call
Here are a million reasons why Canadian football isn't as popular as American football.
A woman lost out on winning $1 million because of a very questionable holding call in a game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Toronto Argonauts on Thursday night.
Karen Kuldys was the lucky entrant in a promotion sponsored by a supermarket in which she'd win the million bucks if there were two kickoffs returned for touchdowns. Unfortunately for her, Toronto's Martese Jackson's sprint to the end zone was called back because of a holding call.
Kuldys was crushed by the call. "My heart just sank and I thought, 'Oh my God, how close could I get to one million dollars,'" she told the CBS. "You got to be kidding me. My stomach is in knots just thinking about it right now."
If Kuldys had a dime for every piece of sympathy she's gotten, she wouldn't be a millionaire, but she would have enough to buy a nice dinner. The Internet went wild for her, courtesy of the hashtag #WhatAboutKaren.
What a perfect storm for her, huh? On what is perhaps the slowest sports day of the year, the CFL -- a football league that gets as much airtime in the States as poutine ads -- found itself front and center.
