Church Rejects Donation from Casino: Does Scripture Justify Receiving It?
Most "righteous" people go to the scripture about the wealth of the wicked being given to the just as permission to accept what can be seen as "ill-gotten" money. However, that's not the case for First Baptist Church of Wetumpka.
Sources report that the church returned a $25,000 donation from Wind Creek Casinos because the church does not support gambling.
It is said that a scripture can be found to justify or to renounce anything (usually taken out of context, though). With that being said, I think I would have found one to show me it was okay to take the money.
Luke 6:38 "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
Ecclesiastes 5:19 "Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God."
Those are two other than Proverbs 13:22.
What would you have done? Would you have used scripture as confirmation of a reason to accept the gift? If so, which one(s)?
