Could The Jett Be Flying Out of Atlanta?
According to multiple NFL reporters, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones has been the subject of interest in phone calls from around the league as a possible trade target. Many NFL teams are eyeing the Falcons situation with the salary cap and wondering if they can poach away the superstar receiver.
10 years ago the Atlanta Falcons traded up in the NFL draft to pick No. 6 to draft Jones. Jones averages the highest receiving yards per game in NFL history with 95.5 yards per game. He's a five time All-Pro (twice First Team, three times Second Team), a seven-time Pro Bowler and has led the NFL in receiving yards in two separate seasons.
Jones in 10 seasons has accumulated 848 receptions for 12,896 yards and 60 touchdowns, however his exorbitant contract contributes to the Falcons troubles with the 2021 salary cap. Due to his increasing age, the team's current struggles and the money Jones is making, he is a prime candidate to be traded.
Sportsline has already released odd on Jones's potential new team. The Baltimore Ravens are the current favorite, followed by the Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and then the Indianapolis Colts.
The Falcons face tricky hoops to jump through should they decide trading Jones is their best option. Jones must be traded after June 1 in order to save nearly $15 million against the cap in 2021.
Still at just 32-years old, Jones can be a valuable asset to any team in the NFL. Look for him to continue to terrify defensive backfields for years to come whether it be in Atlanta or another NFL franchise.
