On Tuesday (Nov. 14), it was revealed that comedian Jordan Peele's horror film Get Out would compete at the upcoming Golden Globes as a comedy in the Comedy or Musical category.

The film was a breakout success, and named the most profitable movie of the year back in August, at which time it had grossed $175 million globally $252 million domestically at the box office.

Considered to be one of the best horror films of 2017, the labeling caught many fans off-guard and led to an outrage on Twitter.

"The fact that Get Out was nominated for a comedy shows how some ppl didn't take it seriously and get the point of the film. That movie is a horror film, and the monster was racism," wrote one person on Twitter. "This is the problem when you ask for a seat at a table you won't own, they tell you wear to sit," wrote another.

But while many fans were outraged, other people on Twitter were quick to clear up why the film will be in the Comedy category.

"Some of y’all are doing a lot with Get Out being placed in a comedy category. The studio and the people behind the film want awards and concluded that is their best shot. The end. God bless."

EW points out that there have been other films that weren't exactly comedies placed in the category, including Ridley Scott's The Martian in 2015. For his part, Peele says it's a documentary.

"Get Out is a documentary," Peele tweeted on Wednesday morning.

He also commented on the similarities between making a comedy and a horror in an interview with CBS This Morning today (Nov. 15).

"They're both about truth," the "Key and Peele" funnyman said. "If you are not accessing something that feels true, you’re not doing it right... you have to be very tuned in to the audience and their emotion.”
