The National Weather Service of Birmingham has issued a Flood Watch through Saturday, June 20, 7 p.m., for several Alabama counties.

This includes all West Alabama counties covered by Townsquare Media: Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker, which are in the “slight” risk zone for flooding.

Residents should know that widespread showers and storms are expected to develop along a stalled frontal boundary draped across the region.

There is a “high chance for additional heavy rains falling on already saturated soils,” said the National Weather Service of Birmingham.

“With high precipitable water values still in place, stronger storms will be very efficient rain producers,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist.

Potential Impacts

  • Additional rainfall up to 2 inches
  • Threat of urban-street flooding and flash flooding
  • Flash flooding possible
  • Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying, flood-prone areas.
  • Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
  • Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.
