“Hidden Cash” Scavenger Hunt Back On for Sunday at Lake Lurleen State Park
The on-again, off-again scavenger hunt during which a mobile game developer says they will hide envelopes stuffed with cash has been rescheduled, this time for Sunday at noon in Lake Lurleen State Park past Northport on Highway 82.
The "Hidden Cash" event is sponsored by Playtika, and Israeli mobile game developer behind Slotomania, a slot machine simulator for cell phones and social media.
The original plan was to host the scavenger hunt at Snow Hinton Park in Tuscaloosa and at Kentuck Park in Northport, but the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority canceled Playtika's permits to have events in the parks late Wednesday afternoon.
A spokeswoman for PARA said Playtika had not been entirely forthcoming about the nature of the promotional event and did not leave PARA enough time to ensure the scavenger hunt took place in a safe and well-organized manner.
A Playtika spokesperson said they are still determined to host a Hidden Cash event in the area, though, and are now planning to be at Pavillon #1 in Lake Lurleen State Park at noon this Sunday.
During the event, participants will be asked to download the Slotomania game, where they will be given clues as to where they can find envelopes containing the cash prizes.
There will be $2,000 hidden for this event, Playtika said.
Unlike the two PARA parks, Lake Lurleen is state operated and requires and admission fee to enter, so anyone planning to participate should bring $4 per adult and $2 per child.
Participants should also keep a close eye on the forecast for Sunday, as the National Weather Service says there's an "enhanced" risk of storms, tornadoes and winds up to 60 miles per hour that morning and afternoon.
