Hurricane Season: Central Alabama Could Be Affected By Tropical System
We are in the first month of Hurricane Season and we are currently monitoring the tropics. There are showers and thunderstorms that are disorganized in nature over the Bay of Campeche which is related to a broad low-pressure system. At this time the National Hurricane Center believes that it will "begin to move northward on Thursday, and a tropical depression is likely to form by late Thursday."
This weekend parts of our listening areas could experience heavy rainfall as a result. According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, "the likelihood of tropical development in the western Gulf of Mexico has continued to increase. This system will bring heavy rains to Central AL this weekend."
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist noted that this weekend, a tropical system will bring lots of rain and " a high danger of rip currents as well."

If you're headed to the beach this weekend, you really want to be careful with those rip currents. It's too early to tell the specific impacts for Central Alabama this weekend, but heavy rain will start to affect parts of Central Alabama this weekend.
