The city of Northport and Tuscaloosa County are reportedly planning to team up with The Alabama Department of Transportation, on a project to help improve the intersection of U.S. Highway 43 and Mitt Lary Road later this year.

The Tuscaloosa County Commission unanimously voted Wednesday to enter into a "memorandum of understanding" with the City of Northport and ALDOT that will set the wheels in motion for $1 million in improvements at that intersection.

District 1 Commissioner Stan Acker said that the improvements would include widening, resurfacing and re-striping the roads and modifying traffic signals in the area to improve traffic flow. The project is said to commence sometime in Spring 2018.

Under the terms of the proposed agreement, ALDOT would fund 50 percent of the project, while The City of Northport and Tuscaloosa County would provide $250,000 each.
