Gunner Stockton Inks New Deal With Georgia, Officially Retuning as One of the Top Quarterbacks in the SEC
The back-to-back reigning SEC Champions, the Georgia Bulldogs, return its starting quarterback from a season ago, with On3 reporting that Gunner Stockton has officially signed a new deal with Georgia for the 2026 season.

Stocton, a redshirt senior, sat behind Carson Beck as the Bulldogs' primary backup quarterback during the 2023 and 2024 seasons before winning the starting quarterback job for the Georgia Bulldogs in 2025. Prior to 2025, Stockton had completed just 57 passes for 588 yards and three touchdowns to two interceptions. In his first season as Georgia's starting quarterback, Stockton completed 69.7% of his passes (269-386) for 2,894 yards and 24 touchdowns. Stockton also added 462 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns on the ground last season.
Stockton returns as one of the top quarterbacks in the SEC as the reigning SEC champions, and looks to lead a Georgia offense that exploded with efficiency during the 2025 season, finishing with a 12-2 record that saw Georgia complete multiple comeback victories, including at Tennessee and against Ole Miss. Georgia also got revenge on Alabama in the SEC Championship, defeating the Crimson Tide 28-7 in Atlanta, Georgia, after falling to Alabama 24-21 in Athens, Georgia, earlier in the season, snapping Georgia's 33-game win streak at home.
The Bulldogs lost their top two pass catchers from last season, with Zachariah Branch and Colbie Young both declaring for the NFL draft, with that duo at receiver accounting for 1,169 receiving yards and seven touchdowns last season for Georgia. However, Georgia is returning its top two running backs from last season, with Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens (1,473 combined rushing yards and 12 combined rushing touchdowns) both returning to Athens next season. Georgia also returns its third-leading receiver from last year, London Humphries, and its second-leading tight end in Lawson Luckie. Georgia also added former Georgia Tech wide receiver Isiah Canion, who finished last season with 33 receptions for 480 yards and four touchdowns.
Stockton will look to lead Georgia to a third-straight SEC Championship win in 2026 as Georgia looks to become the third team to win three straight SEC championships, with the most recent being Alabama from 2014-2016.
