A multi-day, multi-state severe weather threat is expected to unfold this week, impacting areas of the Central United States that were struck by severe storms just last week.

The Weather Channel said that “Severe weather, including a threat of tornadoes, is once again forecast in parts of the South, Midwest and East.”

For Alabama, the current outlook is calling for residents to be weather-aware today, Monday, March 9, and Wednesday, March 11.

Possible Threats

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said, “the highest risk generally across the western half of the area. Threats include damaging winds up to 60 mph & large hail up to half dollar size.”

“Storms will slowly weaken late tonight,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist. With this round of thunderstorms, the primary threat will come from large hail thanks to steep lapse rates. Strong, gusty winds are likely with the heavier storms... the tornado threat is low, but not zero.”
