Ionata, a 6-foot-5, 306-pound redshirt freshman from Calvary Christian High School in Clearwater, Florida, originally committed to the Crimson Tide over the Florida Gators and the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets. The Florida native was ranked as a three-star offensive line prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 44 interior offensive lineman in the class, and the No. 63 player in the state of Florida.

He has appeared in 16 games over his two-year tenure with the Crimson Tide, with the first two coming in his freshman season in 2024. He made 14 game appearances for the Tide in 2025, primarily on special teams and as a reserve center for the Crimson Tide during mop-up duty. While Ionata was listed as the backup center all season for Alabama, redshirt senior offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark handled most of the backup duties for Alabama if starter Parker Brailsford couldn't play.

Ionata is the third offensive line transfer from Alabama this cycle, joining Roq Montgomery and Olaus Alinen. He is the eighth overall transfer, joining Montgomery, Alinen, wide receivers Jalen Hale, Jaylen Mbakwe, and Bubba Hampton, and running back Richard Young.

The transfer portal officially opened on Friday, January 2, and will remain open for 15 days.
