Alabama MBB Guard Labaron Philon Named All-American by Major Outlets
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama men's basketball guard Labaron Philon has been an elite scoring option for the Crimson Tide this season after returning for his sophomore season with Alabama. Philon is the Tide's leading scorer at 21.7 points per game, and has scored double-digit points in 29 of the 30 games he's played this season for Alabama, scoring 20+ points in 19 games and 30+ points twice for the Crimson Tide. He also leads Alabama in assists with 4.7 per game while shooting 50.7% from the floor and 40.2% from three-point range.

Philon's efforts this season have earned him Third Team All-American honors from the four major sports organizations: The Sporting News, the Associated Press, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and the U.S. Basketball Writers' Association.
Philon tested the NBA draft after his freshman season with the Crimson Tide last year, but opted to return to Tuscaloosa for his second season of eligibility, where he's taken over as the top option in Nate Oats' offensive scheme. He's increased his points per game from his freshman season to his sophomore season by 11.1 after averaging 10.6 points per game as the secondary option behind Mark Sears during the 2024-2025 season, increased his field goal percentage from 45.2% as a freshman to 50.2% as a sophomore, and his three-point percentage has spiked from 31.5% to 40.2% as a sophomore.
His top performance this season came on the biggest stage in Coleman Coliseum. With 30 NBA scouts in attendance, Philon scored a career-high 35 points in Alabama's 117-115 double overtime victory over Arkansas, shooting 52.4% from the floor and 37.5% from three while scoring 10 points from the free throw line. Philon also collected two rebounds and had seven assists in Alabama's crucial victory over Arkansas in mid-February.
If Alabama hopes to make a deep tournament run, it'll rely heavily on Philon to be the leader. The Crimson Tide faces Hofstra in the Round of 64 on Friday, March 20, at 2:15 CT.
