There’s something about downtown Tuscaloosa at night.

The sidewalks are quieter. The air feels a little cooler. And when the lights come up on the old Bama Theatre marquee, it feels like stepping back in time.

Which is exactly the right setting for a show like this.

Not an Elvis impersonator show.
Not rhinestones and karate kicks.

But the man behind the legend.

Friday night, February 13th, The Genuine Elvis comes to town. And if you’ve ever loved the music, the gospel, or just the humanity of Elvis Presley, this one’s different in the best possible way.

This isn’t the jumpsuit, Elvis. This is the story of Elvis, the friend, the thoughtful Elvis, the guy who’d sit up all night talking about faith, books, life, and people.

You won’t hear the same old Cadillac and fried peanut butter sandwich tales.

You’ll hear the stuff that feels real; the stuff you’d talk about over coffee at 2 a.m.

The music? Oh yeah, it’s legit.

Country legend Ronnie McDowell will perform several of Elvis’s most iconic rock songs. And if you’ve ever heard Ronnie live, you know that voice hits you right in the chest. Gospel great Billy Blackwood brings the spirit side of Elvis to life, the hymns, the soul, the songs that meant the most to him.

And then there’s the storytelling.

Twelve of Elvis’s closest friends share memories most of us have never heard. Plus, best-selling author, actress, and Elvis’s cousin Edie Hand, adds a personal family perspective you just can’t fake.

This isn’t tribute band stuff. It’s history. Heart. Humanity.

Here’s why I love shows like this. In the middle of all the noise these days — streaming, scrolling, everything digital — there’s something special about sitting in a real theater with real people watching real stories unfold on stage.

No algorithm.
No autoplay.
Just a connection.

It feels human.

And that’s kind of what Elvis always was at the core.

Not just “The King.”

Just a guy who loved music, faith, and people.

Also, fellas, this is your Valentine’s weekend cheat code. Flowers die. Chocolate disappears. But a night out at the Bama Theatre? That’s a memory. It's dinner downtown, a show, and holding hands when the lights go down.

That’s a pretty solid Friday night.

Tickets are available now at tuscarts.net.

If you go, shoot me a message and tell me how it was.
I love hearing about nights like that.

See you somewhere east of midnight.
