Parents and students in the Tuscaloosa City Schools system should prepare for a two-day break from classes next week as the district reminds families about upcoming school closures.

According to an announcement from Tuscaloosa City Schools, all schools in the district will be closed on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Students will also remain out of school on Tuesday, October 13, as teachers participate in a scheduled planning day.

The district confirmed that students are expected to return to their classrooms on Wednesday, October 14, when regular instruction resumes.

The announcement serves as a reminder for families who may need to make adjustments to their schedules, particularly parents and guardians who rely on the regular school week for childcare and transportation arrangements.

While students will have two consecutive weekdays away from the classroom, Tuesday's closure is specifically designated as a teacher planning day.

Teacher planning days generally provide educators with dedicated time to prepare lessons, review instructional materials and organize classroom activities without students being present.

Tuscaloosa City Schools did not provide additional details about Monday's closure in its reminder.

With the weekend immediately preceding the two scheduled days off, students will have a four-day period away from regular classroom instruction before returning Wednesday.

Families are encouraged to keep the dates in mind when planning appointments, childcare arrangements and other activities that may be affected by the school schedule.

The district's reminder applies to Tuscaloosa City Schools. It does not indicate whether schools in the separate Tuscaloosa County School System will follow the same schedule.

For Tuscaloosa City Schools families, the important dates are Monday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 13, with students returning Wednesday, October 14.
