Krimson Sole Launches Shoe Drive for Tuscaloosa Students

A Tuscaloosa running group is using its September runs to give back to local children by helping put shoes on the feet of elementary school students in need.

Krimson Sole Movement Crew has launched a month-long shoe drive and is asking community members to donate new or gently used children’s shoes at any of the group’s runs throughout September.

The initiative was inspired by a similar effort started at Central, according to the group’s announcement. Krimson Sole organizers said they wanted to build on that example and find another way for the running community to make an impact beyond its regular fitness activities.

Donations of children’s shoes can be brought to any Krimson Sole run held during September. Those who would like to contribute but cannot attend one of the runs are encouraged to contact the group through direct messages on social media to coordinate a donation.

Organizers said the collected shoes will be used to support elementary school students in Tuscaloosa who need them.

The drive adds a community service component to Krimson Sole’s September activities and gives runners, supporters and other Tuscaloosa residents an opportunity to participate even if they are not regular members of the running group.

Krimson Sole Movement Crew has built a community around group running, fitness and fellowship, and organizers are encouraging members of what they call the “KS Fam” to help spread the word about the shoe collection.

Community members can participate by going through children’s shoes they already have at home that remain in good condition or by purchasing new pairs to donate.

The group has not announced a specific number of pairs it hopes to collect, but the goal is simple: gather as many usable shoes as possible to help Tuscaloosa elementary students who need them.
