Woman’s Alleged Murderer Hospitalized After Group Beating in Tuscaloosa Jail

A man who reportedly beat his ex-girlfriend to death earlier this month was hospitalized after he suffered a beating of his own at the hands of ten other inmates in the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

As the Thread first reported earlier in March, 40-year-old Jarvos Jermaine Osborne has been jailed without bond since he allegedly violated multiple protective orders and beat his ex-girlfriend, 35-year-old Jessika Lyn Andrews, to death in front of her children at her home in the Tuscaloosa County community of Holt.

He then reportedly drove her car to a different location and sent incriminating text messages including pictures of his bloody fists to others. Investigators later found and arrested him. He was charged with capital murder and cannot be released from jail on bond without an order from a judge approving it.

According to nearly a dozen new depositions filed Tuesday, about a week after he was first booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, Jarvos Osborne was attacked in his sleep by 10 other inmates being held there.

"Investigators observed video that captured Jarvos Osborne asleep on the floor when Joseph Jenkins uncovered [his] head and body from a blanket and began to strike him," police said in charging documents. "For approximately the next five minutes, the listed individuals continuously struck Osborne with their hands, kicked and stomped him with their feet, drug him across the floor, and struck him several times with a hard plastic cooler, a cooler lid and a metal tray."

The attack occurred last week, just before 9:30 p.m. on March 14th.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said Osborne was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center and treated for his injuries but was released back to jail the same day and is expected to fully recover.

Kennedy said the alleged killer will remain in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with no bond for the capital murder charge.

As for the attack, Kennedy said the VCU investigated the assault because it involved the use of dangerous improvised weapons which elevated the severity of the associated charges.

Ultimately, 10 jail inmates were charged with second-degree assault for allegedly participating in the beating.

They are 19-year-old Rakeem Bell, 19-year-old Cameron Chandler, 21-year-old Marcus Dawson, 20-year-old Marquez Hughes, 24-year-old Kederien Irby, 20-year-old Joseph Jenkins, 20-year-old Ammod Jones, 19-year-old Kameron Kemp, 18-year-old Kendrell Porter and 20-year-old Johnneius Wilson.

There was no mugshot publicly available for Porter, the only suspect not alphabetically included in the image above.

The new felony charge will be added to those already filed against the alleged participants.
