Alabama state and local law enforcement will participate in an intense, week long national campaign beginning Friday to crack down on texting while driving. "U Drive. U Text. U Pay." is sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which estimates in 2013 distracted driving-related crashes accounted for 10 percent of fatal crashes in the U.S., and 18 percent of injury crashes.

More than 3,100 people were killed and about 424,000 were injured in 2013 by distracted driving-related crashes, according to a NHTSA report.

The campaign runs through April 15. Read More
