LL Cool J has been going off on Twitter.

The veteran hip-hop star went on a since-deleted Twitter rant after spending a significant amount of time proclaiming his greatness a few days ago. When some followers suggested that the rap legend was past his prime, he issued several scathing retorts, again extolling his brilliance--before declaring he was retiring.

Only to reveal he was just kidding.

"Today I'm officially coming out of retirement. And starting a new album," LL tweeted. "Studio time is set for 8pm.. I'm gonna massacre the rap game!!!"

The Twitter rant was the latest in what is suddenly a flurry of James Todd Smith activity online. A few days ago, LL was with Dr. Dre in the studio to drop a new verse.

The last official album from LL Cool J was 2013's underwhelming Authentic. That same year, LL collaborated with country star Brad Paisley on "Accidental Racist," a widely-panned attempt at social commentary.
