LL Cool J Reacts to Death of Rock and Roll Pioneer Fats Domino
Rock and roll pioneer Fats Domino sadly passed away yesterday (Oct. 24) in his daughter's suburban New Orleans home at the age of 89, and the music community is mourning his loss. LL Cool J reacts to the death of the former musician by sharing his memories of growing up listening to Domino's music.
According to NPR, the chief investigator for the Jefferson Parish Coroner's office revealed that the legendary New Orleans musician passed away due to natural causes. Posting a dedication to Domino on Twitter, the Lip Sync Battle host remembers his legacy, stating that a particular line from his hit song, "Blueberry Hill," inspired him to dream.
"Rest in paradise to Fats Domino," LL Cool J writes. "He paved the way for so many. I remember listening to his music as a little boy. #Fatsdomino. I found my thrill on blueberry hill... that line inspired me to dream.#Fatsdomino rest eternally."
Fats Domino saw his musical success in the 1940's when a bandleader gave him the nickname "Fats" while he worked at a mattress factory. He then went on to sell over one million records of his first single "The Fat Man" through Imperial Records. Over the 1950's and early 1960's, Domino hit the R&B charts some 59 times and the pop charts 63 times, outselling the likes of Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly. His legacy will forever be remembered by the rock and roll and music community.
