Nick Saban Names Freshman Receiver as Starter, Can’t Decide at Cornerback
The Alabama Crimson Tide kicks off its 2022 campaign in five days against the Utah State Aggies in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama head coach Nick Saban released his initial depth chart of the season with a number of interesting notes.
There's no surprise at quarterback, Mike linebacker and Jack linebacker as stars Bryce Young, Henry To'o To'o and Will Anderson are locked into their positions as starters.
Where the sheet becomes interesting is at (H) receiver, left guard and cornerback.
Alabama-native, freshman Kobe Prentice is listed as the starting slot receiver after a strong fall camp. He steps up in place an injured JoJo Earle and can make an early impact on the Crimson Tide offense.
Young's other starting receivers are Georgia transfer Jermaine Burton and junior Traeshon Holden.
At left guard the Tide lists super senior Kendall Randolph as a starter. Randolph has spent most of his career as a hybrid-tackle and tight end but appears to be making the move inside. Javion Cohen, last season's starter is listed as his backup.
The defensive backfield for Alabama has been en flux all summer and fall and appears to be no closer to being set. Saban lists Kool-Aid McKinstry and Eli Ricks as co-starters on one side while listing Terrion Arnold and Khyree Jackson as co-starters on the other.
