Participate in National RX Take Back Day With Tuscaloosa PD
Believe it or not, a lot of times, someones' prescription drugs end up in the wrong hands. That's why events like these are so needed.
How many times a year do you think you get prescription meds? Now think about how often those pills go unused.
I can't be the only one. It seems like every spring I find at least 3 bottles of unused prescription pills that were for me and about 4 more for my wife. Could you imagine what would happen if those pills somehow got into the wrong hands? Of course, no one goes around just handing out their unused pills, but they can easily be lost or even stolen.
According to the Take Back Day website, the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department recently made the announcement that they will take part in the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. the date is set for April 24th, 2021.
TPD made a post on their Facebook page, saying "members of the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force and PRIDE Tuscaloosa will be at the sites listed below to accept unused and expired drugs for safe disposal."
