Parts of North and North Central Alabama Under a Freeze Warning

There is a Freeze Warning for many counties in northern and northeastern Central Alabama, which does cover some of our immediate listening areas. This includes counties like Lamar, Fayette, Jefferson, and Walker. The Freeze Warning goes into effect tonight until 8 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020.
We know that some of our listeners travel around the Yellowhammer state for work, medical needs, and other reasons. For you to prepare, here all the counties in the Freeze Warning: Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Etowah, Fayette, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Walker, and Winston.
The National Weather Service also noted that “freezing temperatures are forecast to persist into early Monday morning. Thereafter, freezing temperatures could redevelop in a few sheltered valley locations again Monday night and into early Tuesday morning.”
Freeze Warnings indicate that you should protect your pets, plants, and pipes.
PETS: If you are in the counties with a freeze warning, be sure to bring in your pets as they can’t handle freezing temperatures. I would suggest limiting your outdoor activity with your family pets as well.
PLANTS: Depending on the type of outdoor potted plant, it would be a great idea to bring those indoors. My mother used to cover her in-ground plants with sheets and blankets. Not sure if that is a professional tip or not, but it worked. Personal suggestion, be sure to shake the plants. You don’t want to bring in outdoor visitors, like lizards or, worst yet, snakes.
PIPES: When heading into the winter season, be sure that your pipes are insulated. During a freeze period, open a faucet to let the water lightly trickle. Shut it off after the freeze warning has passed. Be sure to keep your heat on as well.
